This is a departure from the Coen Brother's genre movie that they have become famous for since Raising Arizona. The formula for this movie is quite simple. Take great dialogue, mix it with good acting and directing, and you have True Grit. I never saw the original and I've never read the book, but judging by the casting of the original alone, with a 22 year old playing the young girl and Glenn Campbell playing Leboef, I don't think I will ever care to watch it. I am also not a fan of the western, which, while this movie is set during that period, does not feel like a western. I put this in the category of an "Unforgiven". As a whole, I give this movie two thumbs up.
